Here's an Oktava ML-51 Ribbon Microphone from the 1980’s! These Russian made ribbon microphones are often overlooked as they come stock as active, noisy ribbons that are powered by an obscure battery. This ML-51 has been modded with a new passive Cinemag transformer and ribbon replacement. Replacing the transformers and ribbons in these microphones turn them into a high tier bi-directional vintage ribbon that can compete with much more expensive ribbons. These translate well on drums, guitar amps, etc. and have a large proximity effect. While these microphones look similar to a 421, they are not front-end address and pick up sound from the sides of the grills. This microphone is looking + sounding great and ready for use.
