Shure released the Unidyne IV series as their top of the line microphones before they were replaced by the SM7 after just a few years of production. The 548 has an added layer of midrange that gives it an advantage in some applications over a typical 545. The 548S had the pistol grip that swivels for easy positioning. The 549 was the top of the line model, with a shock mounted body and larger transformer with two low impedance options (rare).
