AKG D12 (Modded with Beyerdynamic M380 Capsule)
Here’s a modded 1950’s AKG D12 body that features the capsule from a sought after Beyerdynamic M380! Beyerdynamic M380’s are known for their deep, bi-directional kick sound and Steve Albini calls them one of his favorite kick mic’s. The M380’s capsule is really the driver from one of their popular vintage studio headphone models. This D12 was dead and unfixable so I replaced the internals with the exact same vintage capsule that you’d find inside of the M380. As you’ll hear from the samples, this microphone sounds just about identical to the M380. The only differences are the housing and no-humbucking coil (Beyer would glue them inside to the back of the capsule to reduce noise). This is a fantastic sounding kick microphone that I guarantee to become the favorite of whoever purchases this one. For almost half the price of an M380 (if you can even find one for sale) with the classic look of the D12, this is a great deal. It took me lots of research and time to find the exact vintage headphones that contain the drivers for these microphones. This one looks good for it's age with just some slight deformation of the back grill. Grab this unique kick microphone combination with the sought after deep low end of the Beyerdynamic M380!
