Altec 639B Ribbon/Dynamic Microphone
Here’s another Altec 639, this time the B version with 6 different patterns to choose from! This microphone was likely made in the mid 1950’s and combines both a ribbon and a dynamic element. You can choose to use them separately or together based on the different settings via the back switch. This 639 has some wear, especially to the top of the microphone (see all pictures). Other than the cosmetics, this microphone is working perfectly. It comes with it’s rare original connector / stand adapter. Check out the last frame in this post for sound examples (1st is ribbon, 2nd dynamic, and 3rd a combination of both). These microphones are great on drums, guitar amps, vocals, room mic’s, and more.
