RCA 44-A Ribbon Microphone
Here's an RCA 44-A Ribbon Microphone from the 1940's! The 44-A was the first of the legendary "44" series of microphones from RCA. While the 44-A and 44-BX are often times compared to one another, they are very different ribbon microphones with different motors. This 44-A originally had weak magnets (a common issue with some of these models), which were replaced with new Neodymium magnets. All other essential aspects of this microphone are original (including the ribbon motor), and the upgraded magnets made a huge improvement in the overall output and low end frequency response. This microphone sounds huge, with a very large proximity effect reminiscent of the BX 44 models. If you've been looking for a big sounding ribbon for less than the typical cost of a 44-BX, this is the microphone for you. This microphone has new grill cloth, a new ribbon, and a new XLR cable.
