Aiwa VM-15 Ribbon Microphone
Here’s a 1960’s Japanese Aiwa VM-15 Ribbon Microphone that was modeled after the RCA 77! Back in the 1960’s Aiwa and other Japanese companies made copies of microphones from other countries, including many different RCA models. The ribbon motor in this VM-15 isn’t an exact copy of a 77 motor, though it is very much inspired by one and well made. The original transformer in this microphone was 15,000 ohms, so I replaced it with a brand new Cinemag CM-9887 transformer. This VM-15 has also been completely serviced with a new ribbon and XLR connector. The sound of this microphone is smooth and warm and would be a great match for guitars, drums, vocals, etc (many of the same applications of a typical 77). Overall this VM-15 is in great shape and comes in its original wooden case. Grab this fully serviced Japanese 77 clone for warm ribbon sounds!
