Fostex M85RP "Printed Ribbon" Microphone
Here’s a rare Fostex M85RP “Printed Ribbon” microphone from the 1980’s! These microphones feature a construction that combines aspects of both ribbon and dynamic microphones to create a microphone design that is truly unique. The “Printed Ribbon” design “consists of a diaphragm sandwiched between two sets of concentric ring magnets”. Technical aspects aside, these M85RP’s have a very flat, smooth sound that have the warmth of a ribbon with the bright qualities of a dynamic microphone without any harshness. It’s a shame these are rare microphones, because they sound fantastic! I’d recommend this one on all guitars, vocals, snare, and more. These microphones also do a great job with rejection of unwanted sounds when isolation of a source is preferred. This one is in great condition for it’s age with the original clip.
