RCA 74-B Ribbon Microphone
Here’s an RCA 74-B from the late 1940’s! The 74-B was one of RCA’s lower priced microphones that was meant to serve as an every day utility microphone. Despite the lower price, RCA made the 74-B with the same high quality as their other famous ribbon microphones. These feature large magnets with a medium ribbon width that creates a nice full sound! I’d recommend the 74-B on guitar amps (there’s something magical about these on small tube amps), acoustics, drums, horns, and more. On acoustic sources this microphone has an old colored sound, but it really opens up when you place it on a loud source (guitar amps). You’ll have to be conscious of room placement with these because of their large magnets and old transformers. This 74-B has a new cable to XLR / new ribbon and is ready for years of use. It has some light scratches and signs of use but nothing abnormal for a 75+ year old microphone. Grab a classic RCA ribbon microphone in this 74-B!
