Tannoy Type 1 Ribbon Microphone
Here’s a Tannoy Type 1 Ribbon Microphone from the 1940’s! Tannoy was based out of London and made public address systems and microphones. This Type 1 was the first ribbon microphone they made! This one has a nice solid cast iron body and large magnets that give it a typical early big ribbon sound. The original transformers in these can be noisy, so I upgraded it with a new Cinemag transformer and a new ribbon. This Type 1 has a prominent low end and surprisingly nice output for an 80 year old microphone. This one makes a nice option for drums, guitars, horns, and even some vocals. These Type 1’s can be hard to find and need a full restoration job to be usable for modern use! Grab this early Type 1 Ribbon Microphone from Tannoy!
