Many times referred to as The "Eight Ball", these microphones were some of the first non-directional microphones produced due to their spherical shape. Western Electric licensed the design to British STC, creating their "Ball and Biscuit" 4021 that look identical to the the 630A. These have a crisp, natural high end that doesn’t get as harsh as other early dynamic microphones.
